-Applications open for women’s training scholarships
Twenty five scholarships for women to undertake a training course run by the Australian Institute of Company Directors are now open for applications.
Minister for the Status of Women, Gail Gago said that the training course will assist women take that next step in their career.
"There are so many talented and experienced women in our communities with the ability to make valuable contributions to organisations.
"Unfortunately women remain under-represented in senior positions because they lack experience or training in areas like governance and working with a board.
"Qualified and experienced women continue to face barriers to senior position within organisations, particularly at the board level.
"That's why earlier this year the Premier and I were pleased to announce that the State Government was funding these scholarships to help address this issue.
"Women represent half of the community and should have equal representation in the forefront of business," she said.
These scholarships will enable women who may have previously been unable to participate in training due to financial or personal constraints, to attend the high-level course on Friday 23 August 2013.
Preference for these scholarships will be given to women living in regional areas, Aboriginal women, women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and women with disability.
Applications for the Governance for Directors training scholarships close on Friday 14 June 2013. They will be considered by a panel including representatives from the Office for Women, PIRSA and the general community.
Minister Gago will open the applications at today's Bigger, Better, Brighter: Vibrant Rural Women conference at Mount Lofty House.
