Statewide Code Red activated until 2 March 2019

A statewide Code Red has been activated across South Australia to help the community’s most vulnerable during this week’s extreme heat. The Code Red is in place from Monday 25 February to Saturday 2 March.

The activation sees extra services available to help people experiencing homelessness cope with the heat.

During the Code Red, the following metro services will be extending hours and providing additional support:

  • Westcare (Baptist Care SA) 11/19 Millers Ct Adelaide will be open Monday to Wednesday 9am – 7pm. Open overnight from Thursday 28 February to Saturday 2 March (no admittance after 7pm - closed for cleaning between 7am and 9am those days).
  • Trace-A-Place (SYC) - 135 Currie St Adelaide, will be open from 9am to 7pm, Monday 25 February to Friday 1 March.
  • Hutt St Centre - 257 Hutt St Adelaide, will be open from 7am to 5pm, Monday 25 February to Wednesday 27 February.
  • Street to Home will be providing additional outreach services to people sleeping rough.

In regional areas, services are available to assist people who need help during the extreme heat by contacting the Homelessness Gateway service on 1800 003 308.

The Homelessness Gateway Service will continue to operate 24 hours a day 7 days a week, and anyone who is sleeping rough is encouraged to give them a call.

The Code Red is an important reminder to stay healthy in the heat and check on those in your community who are vulnerable to the heat, including the elderly, people with disability or very young children.
