South Australians who feel they may be at risk of domestic violence should make use of the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (DVDS).
Since the DVDS began in October 2018, 114 applications have been received by SA Police.
The scheme is available to help people who may be at risk of domestic violence find out if their current or former partner has a history of violence or related offences. This information can help you to make an informed decision about your safety and the future of the relationship.
You can access the scheme at the SAPOL website. You don’t have to visit a police station.
An application takes around 10 minutes to complete and can be made by any person in SA who is over the age of 17 and concerned for their own safety, or the safety of someone they know.
The latest figures show 34 per cent of applications were made by concerned third parties, with concerns such as physical, verbal or controlling behaviours, as well as emotional or psychological manipulation.
