Grants to help volunteers serve our community

Thursday 10 July 2014

Volunteers Minister Zoe Bettison has announced 26 organisations from across South Australia have been awarded a total of $100,000 in volunteer training grants.

"Successful organisations included volunteer resource centres, councils, training providers and not-for-profit incorporated community organisations," Ms Bettison said.

"The grants will help these groups to provide volunteers with high quality and relevant training, in areas such as governance, risk management, cultural diversity and emergency relief training."

Ms Bettison said that South Australia's volunteers make an enormous contribution to the state.

"More than 900,000 volunteers contribute an estimated 1.6 million volunteer hours each week across the state," she said.

"That is why the State Government has a responsibility to ensure our volunteers are valued and supported in their roles.

"It is important that volunteers and their managers have access to training and development opportunities to build their skills and capacity in their vital roles."

  • Southern Volunteering SA has been awarded $7500 for training courses on social services in southern Adelaide and the Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island regions. Courses include child safe environments and understanding elder abuse.
