Code Red Activated
We’re activating our Code Red summer emergency response for people sleeping rough in metropolitan Adelaide, Port Augusta and the Riverland.
Additional services will be available for extended hours on Thursday 8 February and Friday 9 February to provide safe refuge from the heat.
In the City of Adelaide, the Hutt St Centre and the Baptist Care SA Westcare Centre at 11-19 Millers Court will be open until 8pm both nights.
Vinnies SA Fred’s Van will provide dinner in the city in Hemmings Park, Gawler Place at 7pm on Thursday 8 February.
HYPA Trace-a-Place at 135 Currie Street is a homelessness service specifically for young people, and will be open until 7pm both nights.
St John's Youth Services will open their foyer for respite from the heat.
As well as extended hours for accommodation services, staff will be actively looking for people sleeping rough to connect them with services, check on their wellbeing and provide food, water and sunscreen to people sleeping rough.
People in regional areas can call the South Australian Homelessness Gateway at any time on 1800 003 308 to be connected to local services and emergency accommodation.
Extreme heat poses risks for people sleeping rough due to their risk of exposure, and the impact the heat may have on any existing health conditions.
