Code Red activated statewide
Due to high temperatures forecast over the long weekend, Housing SA has activated its Code Red summer emergency response for people sleeping rough across South Australia.
Additional services will be available for extended hours this long weekend to provide safe refuge from the heat.

Anyone sleeping rough who is affected by the heat, or those supporting them, can call the South Australian Homelessness Gateway at any time on 1800 003 308 to be connected to local services and emergency accommodation.
Services available on the long weekend
The Hutt St Centre will be open from 7.00 am Friday 26 January until 9.00 am Saturday 27 January.
After that, the Baptist Care SA Westcare Centre at 11-19 Millers Court will be open from 10.00 am Saturday 27 January until 7.00 am Monday 29 January.
Fred’s Van will help with meals on Sunday from 6.00 pm.
HYPA Trace-a-Place at 135 Currie Street is a homelessness service specifically for young people, and will be open between 11am and 5pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
As well as extended hours for accommodation services, homelessness service staff will be actively looking for people sleeping rough to connect them with services, check on their wellbeing and provide food, water and sunscreen as needed.
Regional centres will be activating their local Code Red responses to support people sleeping rough in:
- Port Augusta
- Port Pirie
- Coober Pedy
- Port Lincoln
- Mount Gambier
- Murray Bridge
- the Riverland.
