Work to begin on accommodation for Aboriginal post-secondary students

Construction is about to begin in the Adelaide CBD on new purpose-built accommodation for young Aboriginal students.

The accommodation on Gilbert Street, which can house up to 20 people, will enable Aboriginal young people from remote and regional communities to begin further education or training opportunities in Adelaide.

The new housing aims to provide a safe and supportive home environment that supports students’ cultural needs while they undertake post-secondary studies. Students will have easy access to public transport, recreational facilities and community and social connections.

A ceremony was held on-site on 9 April 2019, attended by Aboriginal leaders, students, educators and other supporters.

It is expected that construction will be complete by June 2019.
