Changes to disability counter services under NDIS transition
As South Australians with disability continue to transition from State Government disability services to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), a number of Disability Community Services (DCS) office locations and functions are changing.
From today, the counter services at Christies Beach and Highgate Park will be closed to the public, with counter services to cease at Mount Barker on 8 February, 21 Blacks Rd, Gilles Plains on 22 February and 31 Blacks Rd, Gilles Plains on 15 March 2019.
The counters are being closed as a result of the majority of disability clients in those regions transitioning to the NDIS.
There has been a significant decrease in the number of clients coming into Disability SA offices, as they begin to receive services from the Federal Government through the NDIS.
The Department of Human Services (DHS) has been in contact with the small group of remaining Disability SA clients affected by this week’s changes and are continuing to contact those impacted by the Mt Barker and Gilles Plains changes over coming weeks.
Clients were informed how they can be supported to transition to the NDIS, provided with alternative contact details and informed that they can continue to call the offices on their existing phone numbers.
Although most clients in these areas already have NDIS plans, NDIS Local Area Coordinators (LAC) are available to assist those still seeking plans.
Clients can find the nearest NDIS LAC location online, with offices based at Mile End, Clovelly Park, Salisbury, Noarlunga, Mount Barker, Gawler and Campbelltown.
There will continue to be changes and adjustments to services as we implement the NDIS in South Australia and the State Government remains committed to supporting its clients to successfully transition to the NDIS.
