Housing SA honoured at national awards

The contribution of Housing SA Executive Director Philip Fagan-Schmidt to the state's housing sector has been recognised at the 2013 Australasian Professional Excellence in Housing Awards in Adelaide this evening.

Mr Fagan-Schmidt was presented with a High Commendation in the category of Outstanding Achievement for his work on housing policy development.

Minister for Social Housing Tony Piccolo praised Mr Fagan-Schmidt's contribution to public housing in South Australia.

"Phil's dedication to improving social and public housing in South Australia is truly outstanding," Mr Piccolo said.

"He's widely recognised for his excellent work in redesigning the state's homelessness system and supporting structural reform in the remote Indigenous, public and community housing sectors.

"Over the past 12 months, Phil has led an innovative piece of work which is set to transform and redefine Housing SA programs, services and practices to ensure our tenants are at the centre of everything Housing SA does.

"Phil is an exceptional leader and a valued contributor in shaping national housing policy, particularly through his recent work to review the funding framework for social and affordable housing in Australia."

Other South Australian award recipients this evening include:

  • Marlene Littlewood, a Housing SA tenant who received the Tenant Led Initiative Awards;
  • Common Ground Port Augusta, which has received the award for Leading Housing Project;
  • UNO Apartments, which received a High Commendation in the Leading Innovation Awards category; and
  • Unity Housing, which received a High Commendation in the Leading Tenants Engagement Practice Awards category.

"We have some outstanding individuals and organisations that do tremendous work within the housing sector, and I congratulate each of this evening's award recipients for this well deserved recognition this evening," Mr Piccolo said.

"It's also fantastic to see Marlene Littlewood recognised for her tremendous contribution to her community.

"Marlene's sense of pride and community is a shining example for all those tenants who live in public housing."

The 2013 Australasian Professional Excellence in Housing Awards provides an opportunity to celebrate innovation and best practice of both individuals and teams within the social housing sector.
