Department for Communities and Social Inclusion

Register now for LGBTIQ Inclusion Strategy forums

Members of South Australia's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ) community are encouraged to register their interest for a series of information forums being held across the State.

The Department for Communities and Social Inclusion is holding the workshops in May and June as part of its consultation with the LGBTIQ community to develop an Inclusion Strategy in order to provide a voice for its members.

Communities and Social Inclusion Minister Tony Piccolo said interested persons have until the end of next week to register to attend a forum.

"These forums will provide information about the development of the LGBTIQ Inclusion Strategy and will be an ideal opportunity for community members to express their views," Mr Piccolo said.

"The South Australian Government wants to hear from members of the LGBTIQ community who are passionate about improving government policies, programs and services that impact on them.

"We began this process late last year through the formation of the Rainbow Advisory Council, which is made up of 16 members of the South Australian LGBTIQ community.

"This Council is assisting DCSI with the development of the LGBTIQ Inclusion Strategy.

"Through these forums, participants will hear about the results of the Rainbow Survey and the work of the Rainbow Advisory Council.

"I strongly encourage all LGBTIQ South Australians to attend one of these forums and have their say."

The forums will be held across South Australia in the following locations, each from 6.30pm to 8.30pm:

  • Salisbury - Monday 20 May
  • Noarlunga - Monday 27 May
  • Port Augusta - Wednesday 29 May
  • Berri - Tuesday 11 June
  • Port Lincoln - Wednesday 22 May *Mount Gambier - Wednesday 5 June

Over the next 12 months there will be further opportunities for people to comment and share their views on the LQBTIQ Inclusion Strategy.
