Volunteer training grants program now open

-Volunteer training grants program now open

South Australian councils, community organisations and training providers can now apply for grants to deliver training to support local volunteers under the $80,000 Free Volunteer Training Grants program.
Volunteers Minister Tony Piccolo said the program recognises the importance of providing training to those people that volunteer their time and expertise across South Australia.
“The South Australian Government is committed to working with the volunteer community to broaden the training and development opportunities available to volunteers and volunteer managers,” Mr Piccolo said.
“Under this program, eligible South Australian volunteer resource centres, councils, training providers and not-for-profit incorporated community organisations can apply for grants of up to $10,000.
“Applicants from rural and remote areas of South Australia are encouraged to apply.
“The program can fund training courses covering a wide range of topics, including governance, counselling, risk management, and working with vulnerable people.
“Volunteers and volunteer managers need to have access to training and development opportunities in their local communities, to build their skills and knowledge in the work they do in the community.
“Volunteering spans many diverse roles in the community, some of which are complex and ever-changing.”
There are more than 800,000 volunteers in South Australia carrying out work valued at an estimated $4.89 billion each year.
Guidelines and an online application form are available from the Office for Volunteers website at or by phoning (08) 8413 8172.
Applications close Friday 26 April 2013.
