Dear sector colleagues,

This afternoon we have seen our Premier announce a hard border closure with Victoria, and the Victorian Premier announce that metro Melbourne will enter a period of lockdown.

What's happening in Melbourne, and Victoria more broadly, no doubt makes the possibility of a serious COVID-19 outbreak in Australia seem more real to many of us.

We have seen that hesitation to act rapidly and decisively by leadership in other countries has been catastrophic, and Australian leaders have learned from this.

I want to reassure you that SA Health advice says it has been 105 days since South Australia has had a confirmed case without a traceable, known cause (such as overseas travel).

That said, it is a good time to remind ourselves to remain vigilant about our social distancing and hygiene practices.

I recommend you visit SA.GOV.AU for the latest information as the situation continues to be monitored and updated. It is essential that anyone planning to enter SA from interstate register their plans ahead of time.

If you would like to discuss any concerns, please contact DHS's COVID Response Team Head Anna Bartsch on 0407 320 903 or at Please note, the Response Team is aware of some specific family situations of concern that will be affected by these changes, and will work with SAPOL and SA Health to find safe solutions as rapidly as possible.

Best regards,

Lois Boswell
Acting Chief Executive
