Thanking our volunteers on Volunteers Day

On Monday 10 June, DHS hosted the 2019 Volunteers Thank You Event to acknowledge the many selfless volunteers across South Australia and to present the 2019 SA Volunteer Awards.

The Volunteers Thank You Event is held annually on Volunteers Day, recognised on the Monday of the Queen's Birthday long weekend in June. It is a celebration of the achievements of volunteers and their outstanding service to the community.

More than 1,000 people attended the event held at the Adelaide Town Hall.

The South Australian Volunteer Awards recognise the invaluable work volunteers, community organisations and businesses contribute to our community, through three awards.

This year, the winners were:

  • Joy Noble Medal
The highest distinction for individual volunteers in South Australia for 2019 went to Ms Jill Chapman. Jill was nominated for her role as founder and chairperson of Minimisation of Suicide Harm (MOSH) Australia in 2008.
  • The Premier's Award for Corporate Social Responsibility
Acknowledging the contribution of South Australian businesses to the community, the Premier’s award was given to Win Television Mount Gambier. Win Television has donated more than $400,000 in airtime to local community organisations and raised $415,000 through fundraising for the community.
  • 'The Andamooka' Community Project Award
This award recognises volunteer projects of significant community benefit and was  presented to Sturt Upper Reaches Landcare Group for outstanding contribution to the local bio-diversity conservation and ecological education.

Thank you to the more than 900,000 South Australians who volunteer their time and skills each year to help our communities.
