Southern producers showcase their premium food and wine

A trade exhibition held in Glenelg yesterday was aimed at forging stronger links between southern Adelaide's food and wine producers and South Australia's hospitality sector.

Minister for Communities and Social Inclusion Tony Piccolo said the Southern Producers Showcase was an opportunity for around 30 local producers to promote their product to businesses in the hospitality sector.

"In South Australia, we are fortunate to have so much fine food and wine right at our doorstep," Mr Piccolo said.

"I believe the fantastic food and wine produced in southern Adelaide ranks among some of the best in Australia, if not the world.

"This was a great opportunity for producers to showcase their wares to members of the hospitality sector – our café operators, restaurateurs, hotel operators, caterers and other food and wine traders – and encourage the sector to use more local produce."

"It was a chance to build stronger links that can ultimately help better promote our fine produce locally, nationally and internationally."

Mr Piccolo said produce on display included locally-produced beer and cider, red and white wines, meat, nuts, dairy products and gourmet pantry items.

"If this event proves beneficial to local producers, there's scope to hold similar events in other metropolitan areas to promote produce from the southern Adelaide region," he said.

The Southern Producers Showcase has been supported by the local councils of Holdfast Bay, Marion and Onkaparinga, and was coordinated through the Office for the Southern Suburbs within the Department for Communities and Social Inclusion.

Mr Piccolo thanked all the staff involved in coordinating the Showcase.
