$43 million to support Community Centres across SA
More than 60 community centres across South Australia will share in record State Government funding of $43 million over the next nine years.
Not only has funding for community centres been increased but great care has been taken to ensure that the funding is fairly distributed across the state. The total annual investment currently being finalised will reach up to $6 million per year. The previous funding pool was $3.6 million per year.
18 funded regional community centres
The revamped Community and Neighbourhood Development Program is also providing funding to 23 community centres that previously didn’t receive funding from the State Government. Eighteen regional community centres are receiving funding in the program, including:
- Kangaroo Island Community Centre
- Goolwa Community Centre
- Millicent Community Centre
- Peterborough Community Centre
- Tailem Bend Community Centre.
The funding aims to combat social isolation, promote a stronger sense of belonging for people who are disadvantaged, and foster inclusive, equitable, and resilient local communities.
Competitive tender process
The community centres being funded were chosen through a competitive tender process following an extensive consultation on the rejuvenated Community and Neighbourhood Development Program.
The new program incorporates comprehensive research and service development improvements to ensure that community centre funding and services in South Australia are evidence-based, better aligned with the unique needs of each community, and more transparent and equitable across the sector.
