The Department of Human Services (DHS) has appointed ALTER to continue providing a range of support and mobility equipment services to eligible South Australians.  

People living in the community in need of palliative care support, adults with chronic health conditions and people with a disability aged over 65 years who are not eligible for the NDIS or My Aged Care are among the South Australians who use the DHS Equipment Program, which is funded by the State Government.  

Joe Young, Executive Director of Disability Services at DHS, said ALTER was selected through a public tender process and would begin supplying equipment services on 14 December 2020 on three-year contract with the option of two single-year extensions.

“Vulnerable people in our community will continue to access equipment services and home modifications to assist them in their everyday life,” Mr Young said.

“The new supply arrangement with ALTER will enable the South Australian Government to ensure high quality refurbished and new equipment continues to be available for people using the DHS Equipment Program.”  

ALTER, which stands for Assistive Living Technologies Equipment Resources, is a business unit of Cabrini Health, a large not-for-profit, client-focused organisation which also operates hospitals, aged care facilities and palliative care services. ALTER has more than 10 years’ experience providing assistive technology services around Australia.

ALTER will join with other specialist providers of equipment services and home modifications to support DHS Equipment Program clients.
