Disability Safeguarding Task Force
A Safeguarding Task Force was appointed by the Minister for Human Services in May 2020 to examine gaps in oversight and safeguarding for people living with disability in South Australia.
Safeguarding Task Force information
DHS provides services for our existing clients or people with NDIS plans in South Australia, through:
- Accommodation Services and Northgate Aged Care
- Equipment Program
- Independent Living Centre and the Continence Resource Centre.
The effect of the NDIS on disability services
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) now funds disability services, giving people living with a disability the choice and control over who provides their services.
Disability services provided by the Department of Human Services have been changing in response.

Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2020–2024
Our DAIP sets out the actions we will take over the next four years to improve the accessibility and inclusiveness of our services and supports.
Locate a BlueBay (accessible parking spaces)
The South Australian Government through the Department of Human Services (DHS) has developed a free mobile-friendly database to help people with disability locate accessible parking spaces around South Australia.
You can search for accessible parking spaces by postcode or address, and get descriptions of accessible spaces, including if they are metered.
Email your BlueBays contributions or feedback to DHSdisabilityinclusion@sa.gov.au.
New app coming
DHS is working to deliver a new inclusive app (Inclusive SA Action 2) to show services and facilities that are wheelchair and disability-access friendly around South Australia.
It is anticipated that the BlueBays database will evolve within this new app upon its rollout.
We plan to consult with the community as the new app continues its development, so keep checking back for updates or contact the DHS Access and Inclusion Team through the Inclusive SA ‘contact us’ page.Page last updated : 22 Oct 2021
