DHS is signatory to, or accredited by, a number of initiatives and programs that aim to increase the inclusion of all South Australians, as well as improve their safety and wellbeing.
South Australian Government Autism Inclusion Charter
The Government of South Australia is committed to improving outcomes for Autistic people. A whole-of-government approach will enable a knowledgeable and inclusive state where Autistic people and communities can thrive.
This Charter benefits not only Autistic people, but all South Australians because when we embrace neurodiversity and bring together different minds, skill sets, ways of working and contributing, we maximise opportunity for innovation and progress.
As a signatory to the South Australian Autism Inclusion Charter, we acknowledge that:
- autistic strengths and support needs are unique to each individual; and
- outcomes are most meaningful when we work together with genuine engagement and collaboration.

We're Equal
DHS is committed to treating everyone equally, regardless of age, ability, gender diversity, sexuality, relationship and reproductive status, race, religion and culture.
We commit to a vision of South Australia as an open, inclusive society that embraces and supports diversity.
This means we will ensure that our workplaces are a safe space for all people. We have zero tolerance for discrimination or disrespectful behaviours, whether to, or by, members of the public, our employees, our volunteers, contractors and suppliers.

White Ribbon Australia - Workplace Accreditation
In 2013, DHS was the first South Australian Government Department to become a White Ribbon Accredited Workplace. We are committed to maintaining our accreditation through our programs and services aimed at stopping violence against women and children.
As a department, DHS strives to:
- reduce violence against women through cultural change in the workplace, which includes calling out sexism, discrimination and disrespectful comments, and breaking down harmful stereotypes about each gender’s role in society;
- being a workplace that provides staff with timely and appropriate access to support and assistance if they are experiencing or escaping domestic or family violence; and
- reduce the prevalence of violence against women and children in the broader South Australian community through our external programs, policies and services.
