Independent Living Centre

The Independent Living Centre (ILC) provides professional and unbiased information and advice on equipment, technology and techniques to help people improve their quality of life and maintain their independence.

From 1 July 2021, services of the ILC will be delivered by Catalyst Foundation (Catalyst), an independent information service and charity that has 26 years of experience working with South Australians. More information about the ILC transition.

The Independent Living Centre is staffed by occupational therapists. Our services are available to everyone, including:

  • people with disability, injury or illness
  • carers
  • community groups
  • health professionals
  • organisations
  • students.

Services

We provide information and advice about equipment, technology and techniques to assist with everyday tasks, including:

  • bathroom and toileting equipment
  • bedding
  • building fixtures and design for access
  • clothing and dressing
  • communication aids
  • computer and vocational aids
  • continence
  • eating and drinking utensils
  • equipment and service resources
  • household and kitchen equipment
  • lifting, transferring, ramps and hoists
  • mobility/walking aids
  • personal alert systems
  • recreation
  • seating
  • telephone access
  • transport ideas and vehicle modifications

We provide advice on equipment hire, loan and purchase.

Written product information is available, including a description of the item, supplier details and approximate cost.

Our equipment catalogue of product information and services is available online by visiting the ILC Australia website. Products can be searched at both a local and national level.

Equipment display

Until Friday 9 April 2021, equipment will be on display at the centre for the public to view.

Occupational Therapists are available by appointment, Monday to Friday between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm to continue providing advice and information about equipment and technology.

The information line, brochures and information sheets continue to be available for advice on equipment and technology.

After 30 June 2021, please contact Catalyst Foundation to sample and trial equipment.

Education and training

During May and June 2021, bookings for education and training through the ILC will not be available.

After 30 June 2021, education and training activities will be available through the Catalyst Foundation.

Appointments: Call during opening hours to make an appointment between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm if you need staff to help you.
