In late 2023, the Department of Human Services (DHS) invited the community to have their say to help shape the next State Disability Inclusion Plan (State Plan).

The State Plan will build upon our commitment to improve disability access and inclusion and make South Australia a better place for all.

To develop a plan that reflects the needs of the diverse community for which it is intended, DHS drew on the expertise, experiences and advice of people with lived experience of disability.

DHS has now released a consultation report which outlines the consultation process used and feedback received. It summarises key findings into these themes:

Theme 1: Diversity and intersectionality of disability
Theme 2: Justice, safety and emergency management
Theme 3: Positive learning environments and supports
Theme 4: Inclusive transport and infrastructure
Theme 5: Workforce diversity and pathways to meaningful employment
Theme 6: Accessibility of health and mental health supports and services
Theme 7: Active involvement in the community
Theme 8: Developing the next State Disability Inclusion Plan

How to access the consultation report

You can download the report directly or access the report and further information about the consultation process on the YourSAy website.

Accessible versions of the report, including Easy Read, will be made available on the YourSAy website.

Next Steps

DHS will continue to work in collaboration with State Government agencies, local councils and the disability community to develop the new State Plan, and supporting Disability Access and Inclusion Plans (DAIPs) for 2024 and beyond.
