South Australia’s premier netball team, the Thunderbirds, are the latest high-profile club to take a stand against sports betting sponsorships and highlight the risk sports betting can have on individuals and the community.

The Thunderbirds have added their voice to the State Government’s ‘Here for the Game’ campaign, which aims to disrupt the normalisation of gambling in sport and raise awareness of the potential for harm and the help available.

The latest campaign release was unveiled at the Thunderbirds’ season launch on Saturday 13 April 2024. In it, sporting heroes such as Thunderbirds' captain Hannah Petty, the Adelaide Crow’s Riley Thilthorpe and Adelaide United FC’s Ryan Kitto, urge fans not to let sports betting spoil sport.

If you see worrying betting behaviours in yourself or a mate

The ‘Spoil Sport’ campaign asks you to visit the Here for the Game website if you see worrying behaviours in yourself or a mate around betting, such as regretting ‘cashing out too early’ rather than celebrating your team’s win.

The campaign will  be seen at partner home games, through video on demand, social media and regional radio.

Other clubs involved in the ‘Here for the Game – Spoil Sport’ campaign include the Adelaide 36ers and the Adelaide Giants.

Take a peek at the campaign videos on the Here for the Game website.
