Grants exceeding $560,000 to Help Local Community Centres Thrive

Great news for South Australian communities! More than $560,000 in grant funding is being shared across 22 community centres to support projects that bring people together, reduce social isolation, and provide essential services for those who need them most.
These one-off grants — each worth up to $30,000 — are going to centres that aren’t already funded through the Department of Human Services’ Community and Neighbourhood Development Program. Here’s a look at some of the amazing initiatives getting a boost:
- Aberfoyle and Seaford Community Centres (City of Onkaparinga) – Awarded $30,000 to expand social programs for vulnerable men in the south. This will help build support networks and grow successful initiatives like the Aldinga Men’s Shed.
- Pathway Community Centre – With $23,719 in funding, this centre will set up a Wellbeing Centre and provide volunteer training. The money will help deliver key services such as financial counselling, family support, and mental health workshops. Staff and volunteers will also receive Mental Health First Aid training, so they can better support their community.
- Strath Neighbourhood Centre (Strathalbyn) – Receiving $30,000 to hire a Volunteer & Programs Officer, who will focus on bringing people together, strengthening volunteer efforts, and creating welcoming spaces for everyone.
- City of Tea Tree Gully – With a $30,000 grant, they’ll launch ‘The Worldly Café’—a series of six cultural events over two years, celebrating different cuisines, music, and traditions. This project aims to break down barriers and create connections through food and shared experiences.
Community centres are the heart of local neighbourhoods, offering a place for people to connect, learn, and support one another. While 66 centres across the state already receive ongoing funding, this extra financial boost will help even more communities strengthen their networks and support systems.
