Helping South Australians Recognise the Early Signs of Gambling Harm

General
If we say, "multi", do you think "vitamins" or "bets"? Spot the harm, stop the harm.

A new advertising campaign launched yesterday to help South Australians understand and recognise gambling harm early, making it easier for individuals, families, and communities to take action.

A Campaign to Raise Awareness

‘Spot the Harm. Stop the Harm.’ is designed to highlight the often-overlooked issues through a series of relatable TV, radio, and online ads. The campaign shares the perspectives of both those who gamble and the people around them who may be affected.

What is Gambling Harm?

Gambling harm isn’t just financial. It can impact mental health, relationships, work, and overall well-being. Many people also don’t realise the ripple effect gambling harm can have — not just on the person gambling, but on the people around them too.

Common Signs of Gambling Harm

Some early signs of gambling harm may include:

  • Increased stress, anxiety, or mood changes
  • Withdrawal from family and friends or changes in relationships
  • Distraction at work or decline in performance
  • Being secretive about money
  • Constant thoughts about gambling

By recognising these signs early, you can take steps to stop the harm from escalating.

Where to Get Support

The campaign encourages South Australians to visit Gambling Harm Support SA to learn more about how to recognise the early signs of gambling harm, what to do if you spot it, and the support available.

If you can Spot the Harm, you can Stop the Harm.
