New resources to help you support someone experiencing gambling harm

General

More than 450 pubs, clubs and support services across South Australia are receiving new, easy-to-use resources to help people recognise the early signs of gambling harm, especially in those close to them. The 2025 theme, “Supporting those close to you,” reminds us that care often begins with a simple conversation.

What’s new

  • Posters and postcards with QR codes that link straight to the Gambling Harm Support SA website for stories, facts and nearby help.
  • Factsheets co-designed with people who have lived experience of gambling harm, including:
    • how to start a conversation about gambling harm
    • ways to support children who are affected
    • why people gamble
    • how to find professional help.

Why it matters

  • A recent evaluation found the Spot the Harm. Stop the Harm. campaign is prompting positive change, with nearly 4 in 10 people who spend over $100 per month on gambling saying the ads helped them cut down.
  • National research shows nearly 7 in 10 South Australians gambled at least once in the past year (the national average is around 6.5 in 10).
  • Gambling harm is not just about dwindling finances. It can affect mental health, relationships, work and overall wellbeing.

Campaign activity

More Spot the Harm. Stop the Harm. campaign material will run from 19 October to 5 November 2025 to boost awareness and support.
