Community celebrates opening of upgraded Cummins pool
The Cummins and District War Memorial Swimming Pool has officially reopened, with hundreds of locals turning out for a community open day to enjoy the upgraded facility.
The $2.25 million redevelopment includes a new entrance ramp to the 25-metre pool, a splash park for young families, and the removal of edging around two pools to improve accessibility and safety.
Local fundraising and 10 thousand dollars from a Social Impact grant
The project was a massive community effort, supported by local fundraising, partnerships, and a $10,000 Social Impact Grant from the Department of Human Services.
“The Cummins pool is a community-run facility and to have support from DHS with a social impact grant, to help make our wonderful new facility more accessible was so valuable,” the Pool Committee said.
“It was beyond rewarding to see the entrance ramp being used on opening day by those who need it and we know it will continue to be a key feature of our pool facility in years to come."
"We had a massive fundraising target and every bit helped to make this project possible, so we now have an upgraded facility that the lower Eyre Peninsula community can enjoy for generations to come.”
A local asset for years ahead
The pool redevelopment has already made a noticeable difference, with families, swimmers and older residents using the improved access and new splash park on opening day.
The community will continue to operate the facility, ensuring it remains a meeting place, recreation space and local asset for years ahead.
There are two Social Impact Grant Rounds every financial year with grants of up to $10,000 per project available.
