Aboriginal employment pathways
We welcome and value the professional expertise, cultural knowledge and life experience that Aboriginal people bring to the workplace and are committed to increasing their participation across all areas of our department.
We’re dedicated to providing a culturally safe workplace that respects cultural identity and needs by supporting Aboriginal recruitment, development and retention, as outlined in our Aboriginal Workforce Strategy.
We have opportunities for entry level roles, professional positions, student and traineeship programs, and service delivery roles to work with clients. For more information about job opportunities for Aboriginal people, our Aboriginal Traineeship Program and Aboriginal workforce supports, visit the Aboriginal recruitment page.
Diverse and inclusive culture
We strive to celebrate and improve the lives of people of all ages, cultures, disabilities, ethnicities, faiths, gender identities, sex characteristics and sexual orientations. We’re committed to making our services and workplaces safe and inclusive for all people and ensuring the full diversity of the communities we serve are represented in the strategies we lead.
The following plans, programs and opportunities support recruitment across our diverse workforce:
Salary benefits
We offer attractive salary packages and contribute towards a competitive superannuation scheme for our staff (you can choose your own super fund too).
As a full-time or part-time, term or casual employee of the South Australian Government, you are also eligible to pay for certain expenses with your pre-tax income through a variety of salary sacrifice arrangements. This reduces your taxable income, meaning you may pay less tax to increase your disposable income.
Flexible working
We believe a positive, harmonious work-life balance is important to help you stay engaged and productive, as it can have significant health benefits and increase job satisfaction too.
To support this, we offer access to a variety of flexible work options, including:
- Compressed weeks
- Flexi time
- Hybrid working
- Job share
- Part-time
- Purchased leave
- Staggered hours.
Health and wellbeing
We are committed to maintaining a work environment that supports a holistic approach to safety, health and wellbeing. Resources and supports are available for you to increase your knowledge and awareness of wellbeing issues and implement healthy lifestyle choices relating to physical, mental and social wellbeing.
Initiatives available include:
- Corporate health insurance
- Domestic and family violence support
- Employee Assistance Program
- Corporate health and fitness program
- Mental health resources and services
- Special leave with pay provisions.
Learning and development
We value people who have a curiosity, passion and desire for continuous improvement, knowledge and professional development. We want to help you achieve your ambitions and shape your pathway to success.
We offer a range of activities and tools, including online courses and in-person training programs, access to support for formal studies and qualifications, as well as mentoring, secondments and promotional opportunities to progress your career.
Recognition
We are committed to ensuring our staff have an environment in which they are valued and where excellence and outstanding performance is recognised.
With initiatives such as our DHS Awards, we support and encourage actions that recognise the outstanding efforts and achievements of our staff. We like to regularly acknowledge excellence in areas such as customer service, collaboration and innovation, and celebrate those who inspire others to achieve high standards in their work or go above and beyond to deliver positive outcomes for the people we support.
