Communities of Practice

The CFSS Communities of Practice brings together leaders and practitioners from Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), government, and non-government services (NGOs) who all work together to keep children and young people safe and well, connected to family, community and culture.

Communities of Practice forums

Forums are held throughout the year to provide practitioners an opportunity to share new ideas and ways of working, discuss the latest evidence and learn from those with lived experience.

Forums held in 2025 focussed on working with dads and men who use violence and addressing cumulative harm.

Communities of Practice model

A Communities of Practice model helps people work together and supports shared planning and ongoing improvement of early help services in South Australia.

The Communities of Practice model has three tiers:

Communities of Practice model that shows the groups that gather to build knowledge. These groups start with Statewide Practioner Forums, then Practice Oversight Forum, and finally, Strategic Oversight Forum.

Strategic Oversight Forum

Chief Executives and senior leaders from ACCOs and NGOs, Department for Child Protection, and DHS Executive Directors and leaders.

Practice Oversight Forum

Middle and upper leadership, and strategic external input from Department for Child Protection and academic partners.

Statewide Practitioner Forum

Practitioners at all levels, including sub-level Regional Practitioner Forums.
