Supporting Service Excellence during World Quality Month

General

Each year in November, the Australian Service Excellence Standards (ASES) celebrates World Quality Month. The theme this year is ‘Quality: from compliance to performance’.

Quality is not just about following the rules but an opportunity to improve, be innovative and unlock potential.

Throughout November, we’re celebrating quality with a range of activities including hosting an Information Session and the release of the ASES Recognition tool on World Quality Day, 14 November.

Quality improvement program for NGOs

ASES is owned and administered by the Department of Human Services (South Australia) and is available nationally to all non-government organisations of any size, type, and sector.

It provides an internationally accredited quality improvement program that provides quality standards and support that transforms organisations from basic compliance to continuous improvement.

ASES provides a phased approach to seeking accreditation:

  • Level 1 Recognition – free online self-assessment for smaller organisations seeking confirmation they’re operating legally and effectively, and DHS funded services are offered a free desktop audit. Recognition is the new and improved version of STARService.
  • Level 2 Certificate – fundamental business practices and client services are assessed against 18 standards.
  • Level 3 Award – designed for organisations seeking organisational excellence and the capacity to continually improve and effectively manage change. Most suited to medium to large organisations.

Quality assurance for grants and funding

ASES can help your organisation identify a pathway to Certificate or Award accreditation, and provides a level of confidence to your funders. Often accreditation against approved quality standards, or evidence of working towards this, is required to secure Government funding.

Information sessions

ASES regularly provide information sessions and are a great introduction for anyone new to the ASES accreditation program.

Sessions present an overview of the program including a summary of quality and continuous improvement, practical exercises and the opportunity to meet an external assessor.

Next information session

7 November 2024, 10 am to 12 noon via MS Teams.

Hear from My Therapy House about their ASES Certificate Level accreditation journey.

“I learned the importance of tracking our improvements over time, allowing us to see how our improvements have benefited the business or how we can change to improve in the future. And that in itself impacts our quality of service in a positive way.”
