Urgent Scam Alert for South Australian Seniors
South Australian seniors are urged to look out for scam websites trying to charge fees for new or replacement Seniors Cards.
Seniors Cards are free
SA Seniors Cards, and replacement cards, are free.
We do not ask you to pay anything or provide your bank, credit card or PayPal details for membership.
The Seniors Card website
The SA Seniors Card website is www.seniorscard.sa.gov.au.
Look for the official Government of South Australia and Seniors Card logos before you apply for membership.
The scam websites
The scam websites include:
- www.theseniorsassistant.com
- www.seniorscardportal.au
They will try to charge a fee of $29 or more to coordinate an application process.
These sites are scams.
If you have provided your details
If you have paid a scam website, or provided your details, you should:
- contact your bank immediately
- make a report to Scamwatch, the Australian Government’s Anti-Scam Centre
- make a report to the Australian Cyber Security Centre
Be aware of secondary scamming. You may be contacted by a scammer who says they are from an authority like a bank. If you are not sure about the caller, hang up. Call the business directly and ask if the person is one of their workers.
