Colour, connection and community at South Deadly Christmas Run
Families, friends and community members are invited to lace up their runners and celebrate the end of the year at the Southern Deadly IMF RAW Christmas Colour Run on Sunday 6 December at Niipu Niipu Wama / Morton Park, in Christie Downs.
The free community event will feature a Welcome to Country, a colourful walk or run, and a community feed, with everyone welcome to join in the fun.
Community partnership makes Southern Deadly Runs possible
The event is organised by the Southern Deadly IMF RAW (Running and Walking) Committee, and DHS Community Development Coordinators from the southern and Fleurieu regions. The committee works in partnership with the Indigenous Marathon Foundation, Hackham West Community Centre and Community Health Onkaparinga and the City of Onkaparinga to bring Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities together through health, wellbeing and connection.
Running into the future
The Christmas Colour Run is part of a growing community movement that promotes healthy lifestyles, strong relationships and social inclusion. Looking ahead, the committee plans to expand its program in 2027 by delivering four community runs across the year and encouraging more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to participate in the Indigenous Marathon Foundation's National Championships.
Five participants from each RAW group can be selected to represent their community at the championships, with selection based on participation, performance, improvement and consistency. The opportunity is open to people of all ages, creating pathways for children, young people and adults to challenge themselves, build confidence and celebrate their achievements.
