Disability Support Worker Close Contact Protocol

Dear sector colleagues,

SA Health has updated its application process for seeking an exemption for COVID-19 positive disability support workers to leave isolation to attend work.

To submit an application, disability providers must complete the COVID-19 Positive disability support worker exemption form and submit to the SA Health Exemptions team via email at Health.EMTExemptions@sa.gov.au.

The exemption process takes approximately 24 hours. If approvals are required more urgently, providers must contact the COVID Operations Disability Outbreak support team via email at health.disabilitysectorcovid19@sa.gov.au to provide a rationale for the urgency.

The new process has been designed to ensure that SA Health has the information required to make a timely and considered assessment of the application, and to ensure that the disability provider is aware of its requirements and obligations when seeking approval for a COVID-19 positive support worker to leave isolation for the purposes of work.

For an application to be considered, providers must have exhausted all other means to fill the position. COVID positive disability support workers who are approved to work during their isolation period must continue to isolate at their place of residence at all times when not at their place of work.

For further information, please refer to the application form, or email DHSCOVIDResponse@sa.gov.au.

Close contact disability support workers who are required to work during their isolation period must also submit an exemption request to SA Health for approval. A copy of the exemption form for close contact disability support workers is available on the DHS website, and should be emailed to the SA Health Exemptions team at Health.EMTExemptions@sa.gov.au when completed.

Supported independent living providers should refer to the Protocol for the management of close contact SIL workers for details on approving close contact SIL workers to work during their quarantine period.

Ngaityalya (Kaurna, thank you)
