The Adult Safeguarding Unit offers free, confidential information, advice and support to protect the rights of adults at risk of abuse, including older people.
We respond to concerns of abuse or mistreatment in accordance with the Ageing and Adult Safeguarding Act 1995 and the South Australian Charter of the Rights and Freedoms of Vulnerable Adults respecting human rights, personal choices, and valued relationships.

What do we mean by safeguarding adults?
Safeguarding is the action that a person, organisation or community takes to promote and protect the health, wellbeing and human rights of a vulnerable adult to live free from abuse or mistreatment.
Everyone should understand and support the rights of adults.
Key functions of the Adult Safeguarding Unit
We support the rights of vulnerable adults by:
- Giving confidential advice to people worried about themselves or others.
- Responding to reports of suspected or actual abuse.
- Providing tailored safeguarding support to adults experiencing abuse.
- Raising community awareness about our services and how to protect vulnerable adults.
