Anniversary of National Apology to the Stolen Generations
Tomorrow marks the 13th anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations and it’s important to acknowledge the significance of this event for Aboriginal peoples and the whole of the community.
On 13 February 2008, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd delivered a public, formal apology on behalf of the Federal Government to the Stolen Generations and their descendants.
This was a significant step towards acknowledging the wrongs done by successive governments and toward establishing a new, respectful relationship with Aboriginal communities.
The Department of Human Services is deeply committed to Reconciliation, and to promoting an environment of cultural inclusion, equity and safety by developing and maintaining respectful relationships with Aboriginal peoples and communities.
The Department is currently developing its Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan, which will provide the framework to continuously improve and build on its Reconciliation journey.Page last updated : 12 Feb 2021
