Recruitment drive launched for disability traineeships
South Australia’s disability support sector will be bolstered by the training of 175 new disability services officers over two years.
A recruitment drive to hire the first of the trainees has begun, with roles on offer across Adelaide, Kadina and Mount Gambier.
The trainees will join the largest and fastest growing industry in South Australia. They will work in the Accommodation Services division of the Department of Human Services under the guidance of experienced mentors.
Up to 85 roles in the first year
Up to 85 roles will be filled in the first year of recruitment through a group training organisation, with more rounds to follow through 2022. Trainees will be paid in accordance with the industry award national training wage and achieve a Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability).
Over 12 months, the trainees will gain practical hands-on experience in supporting adults living with diverse and complex disabilities and earn a nationally recognised certification.
A commitment from the South Australian Government
The $9.5 million initiative is part of a commitment from the South Australian Government to drive a skills-led economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic through employment and training in sectors with a high demand for skilled workers.
Trainees of all ages needed
Aspiring trainees could be young people just starting out in their careers or older workers looking to move into a new field.
Trainees will learn the wide range of skills required to support people with disability, including promoting independence and community inclusion, supporting personal care and encouraging the building of interpersonal relationships.
