Women's Information Service volunteers greeting Governor Adamson

Today the South Australian Governor, Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson, has toured the Women’s Information Service (WIS) in Grenfell Street where women at risk of domestic and family violence can access information and referrals to support services, including health, legal advice and accommodation.

Barbara, a WIS volunteer who has helped women at the centre for over ten years, told Governor Adamson about the importance of community engagement and having women helping women in need.

After the tour, Her Excellency attended a meeting with the Premier’s Council for Women, which provides leadership and advice to ensure that the interests and needs of women are at the forefront of the South Australian Government's policies and strategies.

“It has been a privilege for us at Office for Women to host this visit today, as well as a great opportunity to showcase the work the Premier’s Council for Women and the Women's Information Centre are doing in South Australia. Hearing the Governor's vision on women's rights and gender equality has been very inspiring”, the Office for Women Director Sanjugta Vas Dev said.
