Port Augusta Community Outreach supports more than 100 people to Return to Country

2022-12-23

Port Augusta Community Outreach, a partnership with the Government of South Australia.

The Port Augusta Community Outreach response continues to improve community safety and wellbeing for everyone with 109 people, including 18 minors, supported to Return to Country since the program launched in November this year.

The $1.2 million state government-funded program to help combat anti-social behaviour was codesigned with Aboriginal leaders and local community organisations. This collaboration is ongoing and is integral to delivering a culturally appropriate response and a positive impact for the region.

DHS is also collaborating widely to ensure support for young people in the region, including both funding the Port Augusta Youth Centre to open for an additional three nights per week and extending the Salvation Youth Bus Service to start from 7pm through the summer school holidays.

DHS team members will continue to work with community service providers to meet increased demand for this important service during the summer months and for the next four years.
