COVID booster interval brought forward.

Dear sector colleagues,

The Premier and SA Health have today announced that the community will be eligible to receive their COVID-19 booster shot 4 months after their second vaccine, with the change coming into effect from 4 January 2022. It is important to note that the Premier has further advised that from 26 December:

  • Individuals who have had two AstraZeneca primary doses at least 4 months ago can access the booster.
  • Individuals who work in residential aged care and disability settings and health care workers can access the booster if they had their primary doses at least four months ago.

For information about vaccination clinics open next week, and to make a booking, please visit the SA Health website.

New evidence about the protection of the vaccines against Omicron is behind this latest change, and the latest information indicating protection against catching COVID-19 could be improved with boosters. We also continue to stress the importance of public health measures like wearing a mask and social distancing to help slow the spread of the disease.

Ngaityalya (Kaurna, thank you) Lois BoswellChief Executive
