‘Ready for School’ in the South-East

A specialist program run by Playgroup SA in the state’s South-East has navigated the important transition to be ‘Ready for School’ in 2020.

Grants SA provided more than $45,000 to deliver two of the ‘Ready for School’ playgroup programs per week for children with a disability and their families in Limestone Coast.

The Melaleuca Hub and North Gambier Primary School Hub provided the opportunity to play and make friends for children, and resources for parents to prepare for school.

Referral pathways were established with local educational settings that referred children and families based on those who required additional support.

The partnership with educational settings helped facilitate successful transition experiences and assist families to establish routines that supported self-help skills and ensure children were developmentally prepared for commencement of the 2020 school year.

Playgroup SA says while providing a Play Based program, it has been designed with developmental goals in mind to ensure positive engagement in school settings.
