Outcome Area 1: Employment and Financial Security

People with disability have economic security, enabling them to plan for the future, and exercise choice and control over their lives

1.1 Continue to work collaboratively with the Commonwealth Government and the National Disability Insurance Agency to develop strategies to support a diverse disability workforce, including within regional South Australia.

Key deliverables and milestones

  • Completion of National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) workforce development project to increase the disability workforce in South Australia.
  • Participate in the NDIS review of pricing, markets and compliance, and in the development of an NDIS Workforce Strategy to ensure the needs of South Australians with disability are represented.

Outcome measures

  • Increase in disability workforce numbers.

1.2 Link with Commonwealth Government work to evaluate the Volunteer Management Activity (VMA) model and develop a Performance Management Framework to ensure access to volunteering opportunities.

Key deliverables and milestones

  • DHS will continue to engage with the Commonwealth Government and states and territories on national volunteering objectives.
  • DHS will contribute to the VMA review and Performance Management Framework, ensuring it represents the needs and interests of South Australia’s volunteering community.
  • Promote awareness of existing initiatives that support organisations to be more inclusive of volunteers with disability.

1.3 Increase employment opportunities and improve access to workplace supports for people with disability.

Key deliverables and milestones

  • Support the implementation of the South Australian Public Sector Disability Employment Strategy 2020–23 and develop new strategies to create a more inclusive, accessible, safe and informed public sector.
  • Participate in work led by the Commonwealth Government to improve access to jobs, skills and meaningful careers for people with disability, including enhancing the supported employment sector.
  • Work with the Commonwealth Government, states and territories to develop and implement a Disability Employment Centre of Excellence.
  • Consider new work placement and mentorship opportunities for people with disability.

Outcome measures

  • Disability employment targets are implemented.
  • Diversity and Inclusion Strategy is launched.
  • Increase number of people with disability who are employed in DHS.
  • Participation in Commonwealth- led initiatives to ensure the needs and interests of South Australia are represented.
