Family support programs

If your family is experiencing challenges that may affect your children’s safety and wellbeing at home, there are family support programs that can provide you with early intervention support.

By seeking support early to help keep your children safe and thriving at home, you may reduce the risk of your children becoming involved in the child protection system.

Challenges your family may have include:

  • domestic and family violence
  • alcohol or drug misuse
  • family relationships (such as separation)
  • mental or other health concerns.

We fund non-government organisations and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations to provide family support programs (commonly known as Strong Families, Strong Communities program). These programs are for families with children of all ages, from pre-birth to adolescents, to help their children stay at home, connected to family, community and culture.

Family support programs aim to empower your family by:

  • building and sustaining healthy relationships with your children
  • strengthening your parenting skills
  • understanding your children’s challenging behaviours
  • encouraging your family to make positive choices to shape your future
  • strengthening your family’s connection to community and culture.

How to access a program

If you think you might need additional support to keep your family safe and well, you can contact a program provider from the list below in the area you live. Together they will talk with you to ensure the program meets your family’s needs.
