Carers SA

DHS works in collaboration with Carers SA the lead provider in SA for carer services. Carers SA acts as both a representative organisation and a service provider, offering a range of services to caring families in metropolitan, rural and remote locations across South Australia.

Carers SA role is leading change and empowering family cares to participate in a partnership with South Australian government and the health and community sectors for the provision of better services, to improve the conditions under which family carers operate and to increase the recognition of the contribution of family carers to the South Australian community.

Carers SA is a not-for-profit incorporated association with a mixed income base including funding by the South Australian and Australian Governments.

Carers SA is part of a national network of Carers Associations and a member of Carers Australia, the recognised national peak body representing and advocating on behalf of family and friend carers throughout Australia.

Carers SA gives carers a range of support services including:

  • career support planning
  • organising practical support packages
  • in-person counselling
  • peer support and coaching, and
  • emergency respite care.
