Energy Bill Relief Fund

The Australian Government continues to provide energy bill relief in the 2024–25 financial year through the Energy Bill Relief Fund. The bill relief is available to all households and eligible small businesses.

Retailers must apply the bill relief to electricity accounts for household and eligible small business customers from 31 July 2024 to 30 June 2025. For most people, it will be applied as a quarterly rebate on electricity bills.

DHS is administering the energy bill relief in South Australia.

Retailers can email queries to DHSRetailersConcessions@sa.gov.au.

Embedded network operators must apply through the Small and Family Business website for the energy bill relief, on behalf of eligible households and small businesses on their network.

The rebate is separate and additional to the existing South Australian energy concession.

Energy Concession

The Minister for Human Services funds, operates and administers the energy concession on behalf of the Minister for Energy and Mining.

To provide concessions, an energy retailer must enter into a Concession Scheme Administrative Arrangements Deed with the Minister for Human Services.

The energy concession helps eligible South Australians on low or fixed incomes with the cost of electricity bills for their principal place of residence. The concession is calculated as a flat rate per day and is indexed each financial year.

For approved customers who receive an electricity bill in their name, the concession appears as a credit on each bill. People who pay for energy another way may receive concession payments directly into their bank account.
