Personalised support that suits you

A connection worker can work with you to get you the right supports.

They can help with goals, advocacy, information and transport — and help you access services, social groups, and new experiences to make life as a young carer a bit easier.

One-on-one support (case management)

Your connection worker can help you set some goals — whether they’re about school, work, or just feeling more balanced — and make a plan to reach them. They will be there to guide you through any challenges and help you access the services you need.

Someone in your corner (advocacy)

If you feel like people don’t understand your caring role, your connection worker can step in and help. They can talk to your school or work on your behalf and make sure you're getting the support you need. They can help you access more programs through the Commonwealth Government’s Carer Gateway.

Useful information and connections

Your connection worker can give you information and support to help you find the right services like local youth programs, young carer groups, mental health services, or education and job support. They can also help you build stronger relationships with friends and family.

Getting where you need to go (transport)

If it’s tricky to get to activities or appointments, your connection worker can help you figure out transport options. That might mean learning how to catch public transport, joining a group ride, or using a local community transport service.

Social time and support groups

It's important to have fun and connect with others who get what you’re going through. You’ll have the chance to join social and peer support groups, either in person or online.

You’ll also have the chance to take part in group activities—maybe even overnight camps. These are a great way to take a break from your caring role, have fun, and meet other young carers who understand what life’s like for you.
