Centring the Child's Voice in Safe, Child-Inclusive Practice

Practitioners are supported to keep children’s voices at the centre of their work with the ‘Centring the Child’s Voice in Safe, Child-Inclusive Practice’ – e-learning course.

Developed by Relationships Australia SA (RASA), in partnership with DHS, the course offers practical tools for supporting children of all ages to share their thoughts, feelings, hopes, and concerns in ways that suit them. It uses the Lundy Model which focuses on four key elements: space, voice, audience, and influence. Practitioners learn how to really listen to children and make sure their views are heard by the right people. They also learn how to make sure that children’s input is used to help guide decisions and shape safety plans, so their participation leads to real outcomes.

The e-learning course also introduces the use of danger statements and safety goals. These help practitioners clearly explain risks, identify what needs to change, and work together with children and families to improve safety and wellbeing.
