The Max Fatchen Award for Best Young Journalist
DHS sponsors this award in the SA Media Awards. Entrants must be 25 or under and display creativity, research, technical skills, newsworthiness, writing flair and impact.
Entries are not confined to reporting of youth issues – any media coverage may be entered in this category.
Department of Human Services Aboriginal Achievement Award
DHS sponsors this award in the 7NEWS Young Achiever Awards – SA. This category acknowledges and celebrates the commitment of winners to achieving excellence in their field.
This award category is open to all Aboriginal young people aged up to 29 in South Australia. It recognises contributions to the Aboriginal and/or broader community, barriers overcome, leadership skills and cultural achievements.
Youth Parliament is a unique opportunity for young people aged 15–25 to express their views, become community advocates and learn about South Australia’s parliamentary system.
The program runs from March to August every year and involves:
- a training weekend
- a week-long camp
- access to Parliament House.
Regional scholarships are available to support the costs of attending the training weekend (travel to and from Adelaide and accommodation) and the residential week (travel to and from Adelaide).
