Event description :
This art workshop invites young people to collaboratively create a 3D sculptural quilt/blanket made from clay. Each participant contributes one section of the quilt, forming a shared artwork that explores what home means—whether that is a place of safety, a memory, a feeling, or something still being searched for.
The blanket symbolizes comfort, warmth, and protection, while the clay represents the cold, hard realities many young people face when housing insecurity or family breakdown makes returning home complex or unsafe. Together, these materials create a powerful tension between softness and hardness, safety and exposure.
At its core, this artwork reflects the journey many young people and families take through Ruby’s Reunification Program—a service that supports reconnection not by “fixing” people, but by helping families return to themselves, recognizing the strengths, tools, and love that already exist, while learning new perspectives, communication strategies, and pathways forward.
We invite the community to witness the final product in the window display of Pitt St and join us in reflection of what home means or feels for you currently and what item would you keep as a reminder of that.
